Did you know my title line comes from a song in a sandwich commercial?
So, during our personality unit in psychology we learned about Rotter's theory of locus of control, which, in the spirit of giving impressive-sounding names to embarrassingly simple ideas, is the concept that all people put the majority of the blame for what happens to them on either themselves (internal locus) or their circumstances (external locus). Logically, everything is a mixture of the two--nothing is solely your fault or solely God's wrath taking your bird and bush--but people are kind of dumb and usually tip the scales one way or the other. I would self-diagnose myself with an internal locus, personally, and ever since I've been trying without success to figure out how having that tidbit of self-knowledge benefits me in the slightest.
Do you ever find yourself awake late at night, tossing and turning, thinking to yourself, "I sure wish Linda had a site online where she posted pictures of some of her art pieces from this year"? You're not alone. There is a cure.
